John is my artist net buddy. Tonight we met on the net and talked about many things about art, from The Gates to ZhangYimou, from Jackie Chan to complementary color...(Forgive me my poor English, I really didn't have time to check the dictionary...)
John: What did u think of the Christo project in New york City?
Li: let me remember my first sight at the photos you gave me
John: ok, photos were not great
Li: and not many
John: yeah most came out bad, hard to get on film
Li: i didnt feel much excited about the orange flags(maybe not flags),i like orange though, and i remembered you mentioned it would be better in the sunshine day with breeze, that sounds more excited.
John: yes i agree..unfortunately the whole project did not do a lot for me. i think i had too high expectation
Li: never have too hight expectation,i told myself this a lot
John: was fun just to walk around in it but the scale ,.Height, seems too short for the size of the setting
Li: if you think too short, that must be a big problem. sometimes, the quantity can make different quality, damn it,i really don't know how to express with my such poor English. such as the arrows in the "hero"
John: yes the quantity was great (7500 gates) but I was not overwelmed by them like i wanted to be
Li: are you overwelmed by arrows in the "hero"?
John: i liked the arrows scene
Li: that's why zhangyimou is professional, but i think its a little extreme
John: especially the ones coming in the building when everyone was calmly sitting
Li: this is his old trick. thats why most chinese dont like hero
John: yes i have asked several chinese and so far not many really like it...more popular in USA
Li: especially the theme, and i dont think there're many excited scenes in that film
John: i do get tired of the flying through the air scenes with a big sword out in front though
Li: i watched a few scenes in Peacock, very beautiful. i think that director is great! not like zhang's film, just PRETTY
John: do u like Yimuo early films?
Li: yes,i do. but dont like the last cooperation with GongLi,i dont know its english name
John: do u like Not One Less?
Li: oh,no. i dont, but to be honest, its still better than most films directed by others
John: yes little corny but i liked it
Li: i like his film about a woman will sue the leader in her countryside, its master piece
John: what is the name?
Li: The Story of Qiu Ju
John: yes i know that one....i liked very very much
John: we have very few chinese films here ...but i think any are a good change from many of the silly "action" american films
Li: when i was tired, action movie is my favorite, such as HARD ROCK
John: we all like old JACKIE CHAN films here haha
Li: HAHA,but i dont like him
John: i like a lot but his new ones r terrible
Li: i like Jet lee more, the way he plays kungfu is very beautiful
John: i knew u would say that hehe
Li: IT'S TRUE
John: Jackie is terrible actor but great stunt man
Li: and he is handsome, chinese style handsome
John: u mean Jet Li?
Li: of course
John: Jackie has big nose, haha ,maybe that is why i like him
Li: yes,i used to think Jackie is very handsome when i was a kid
John: really???
Li: yes,i was abmormal that age...
John: it's fun to be "ABmormal"
Li: for example, we all know what complementary color in the painting
John: yes...
Li: i think complementary color like a couple. when i was a kid,i think blue and red is a couple,
green and yellow is a couple
John: but those not complementary colors
Li: yes, thats why i said i was "different"
John: ah ic....i'm a little slow too
Li: complementary color should be recognised by eyes, not by teaching
John: i have hard time with colors....usually only use very little ...and never sure about combinations
Li: haha,no wonder you're a man,woman has that gift
Li: but woman seldom do a big job
John: hmmm is that the reason
Li: differently sort of
John: i am repainting the walls in my kitchen....just going to use white...easy
Li: you can use the gray,we often call them high-class gray, its the mark of my university
John: don't like gray in kitchens...sorry
P.S. The figure drawing is made by John, I like that, as I told him, a little like my favorite artist---Euan Uglow’s works.
